Born in a Chilean walnut grower family, Rafael has been connected with agriculture since his childhood. He earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Catholic University of Chile and a Master of Science in Economics from the Humboldt University in Germany. In 2009 he was co-founder of FRUNUT, a growers’ company expert in the production and export of walnuts. The business is vertically integrated and provides a variety of services such as walnut nursery, orchards management, technical advisory, hulling, drying and walnut processing. He has contributed actively to the development of the Chilean walnut industry in different activities of Chilenut such us commercial and technical committees and missions to India and China that were strategic to get market access. He has also been director of Chilenut in the past.
