Albert is a full-time pecan nut farmer (since 1991) and operates a small pecan processing plant near Cullinan on the eastern side of South Africa. Processing consists of shelling for the local kernel market and exporting inshell pecans.
Albert has served as a board member of the South African Pecan Nut Producers Association (SAPPA, www.sappa.za.org) since 1997. He served as chairman of the board from 2003 till 2008 and as vice chairman from 2008 till the present day. Albert is passionate about pecan farming and has been an integral figure in the development of the pecan industry in South Africa.
SAPPA is a pecan producers’ organization that serves the interests of its members by creating an environment in which the role players in the pecan nut industry can obtain sustainable benefits. The South African Pecan Nut Producers Association has been in existence since 1992 and serves in the interest of the pecan industry.
