Riccardo Calcagni joined the family enterprise V. Besana S.p.A. in 1992. He soon became Purchasing Manager for Raw Materials, and later Production Manager at the plant in San Gennaro Vesuviano, in Naples, Italy. He became CEO of the Besana Group in 2002. He was elected Chairman of the FRUCOM Dried Fruit & Nuts Working Group in 2016. Riccardo is a member of the INC Board of Trustees, and also served as INC Ambassador for Italy from 2006 to 2012. During the same period, he was Coordinator of Nucis Italia for the promotion of the health benefits of nuts and dried fruits.

In the past 30 years, he has advanced the story of Besana by combining tradition and innovation, while actively keeping a finger on the pulse of the nut and dried fruit world. Over the years, he has participated in numerous committees and working groups to favor scientific research, trade development, product and process innovation, and improvement of quality standards. Following in the footsteps of his father, he also leads important activities in the agricultural sector through farmer projects in Europe and abroad.

After the Besana Group reached an agreement with the Spanish group Importaco in 2020, becoming Europe’s biggest international platform for nuts and dried fruit, Riccardo was confirmed as CEO of Besana.
