Born into the nut business in 1963, Giles Hacking is the son of Chris Hacking, founder of CG Hacking & Sons, and one of the original founders of the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC). After an early career in television and advertising, Giles was persuaded by his father to pursue commodities. He joined one of London’s leading cocoa and coffee dealers, where he spent a decade trading physicals and futures. In 1994, Giles returned to his roots, joining CG Hacking & Sons.
His involvement with INC began soon after. He joined the INC Board in 1999 and was elected to the Executive Committee in 2004. As Chairman from 2011 to 2015, Giles oversaw a 10% growth in membership and a significant increase in Congress attendance. He also helped facilitate the INC’s move to its new headquarters at Mas Barrufet in Reus. Giles currently serves as a member of the INC Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, as well as the Chairman of the INC Business Integrity Committee.
For his invaluable contribution to the nut and dried fruit sector, Giles was awarded the Golden Nut Award in Seville in 2018. His father had received the same accolade in London in 1997, making them the only father-son duo to hold this prestigious honor to date.
Giles has been married to Sarah for 32 years (this May!), and together they have three children: Edward, Marina, and Felix.
