HONORARY GOLDEN NUT AWARD

Cao Derong

President of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (CFNA), China

President Cao Derong has nearly 40 years of experience in international investment promotion and coordination of international trade in food and agricultural products. He has successively held positions in key departments of the former State Economic and Trade Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, and large central enterprises, and served as Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Consulate General of China in Houston. He possesses profound insights into China’s international investment and foreign trade policies, national agricultural development plans, and the construction of the food and agricultural products distribution system.

Since assuming the presidency of the Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce Import and Export of China (CFNA) in 2019, President Cao Derong has led the Chamber to further deepen practical communication and cooperation with overseas counterparts in the food and agricultural products industry, systematically conduct research and consulting services on domestic agricultural policies, coordinate resources to host high-quality international conferences in professional fields, and continuously enhance the Chamber’s image and industry influence on key international platforms.

The CFNA is the only national-level trade association in China’s food and agricultural products sector, with nearly 4,800 member enterprises and 48 specialized branch committees covering various product categories. The Chamber maintains long-term and close ties with government agencies at all levels, local industry associations, leading enterprises, and a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises across China. It has also established regular communication and cooperative channels with hundreds of international organizations and national industry associations worldwide in the food and agricultural products sector. Committed to empowering member enterprises in production and trade, expanding two-way exchanges and cooperation in food and agricultural products between China and the rest of the world, the Chamber promotes the healthy and sustainable development of the entire industry.

Chacha Food

China

Founded in 1995, Chacha is a leading Chinese nut snack manufacturer with more than 30-year legacy of quality. Generating over US$1 billion annually, it pioneered roasted sunflower seeds, selling over 2 billion units and leading the category for two decades. It has expanded its portfolio to include innovative offerings such as nuts, potato crackers, fruit juice jelly, and other snack foods. Chacha holds 317 patents, contributes to 49+ national standards, and leads in freshness technology, with products sold in 1 million Chinese outlets and over 50 countries. Its vertically integrated supply chain spans dedicated farms and 11 high-tech, BRC Class A factories with CNAS-certified labs. In 2017, it received China’s National Science & Technology Progress Award.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Cheng Hung Kay

General Manager, CHK Trading Co. Ltd., Hong Kong, China

Mr. Cheng started his career in 1973 at the Guangdong Native Product & Animal By-Products Import & Export Corporation, where he worked to establish 21 cashew processing plants across Guangdong province and worked with the Chinese cashew industry to establish the national standard for cashew kernels and cashew nut shell liquid. He has introduced various tree nut products to China, including Iranian pistachios—for which he coined the name “Happy Nuts”—as well as Turkish hazelnuts, California almonds and Australian macadamias. He was the first to assist the California industry to sort pistachio kernels to a value-added product and led the creation of artificial-opening pistachios. He introduced Chinese pine nuts and blanched de-bitter apricot kernels to the US market in 1978. He serves as INC Ambassador in China for Hong Kong.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Weng Yangyang

Vice Executive Chairman of the Specialized Committee for Nuts and Dried Fruits of the China National Food Industry Association, China

Ms. Weng has dedicated her career to the administration and development of China’s food industry over several decades, holding key leadership positions in the Suzhou Municipal Government Food Industry Office and the China National Food Industry Association. Ms. Weng founded the China International Nuts and Dried Fruit Exhibition in 2006, and she has organized the 917 Nuts for Health Week every year since 2016. Since 2007, Ms. Weng has leveraged industry expertise to develop and establish over 40 national, industry and group standards covering safety, management and product specifications, accelerating the industry’s transformation toward industrialization and intelligent manufacturing.

EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH

Prof. Cyril Kendall

Senior Research Associate, University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital, and Adjunct Professor, University of Saskatchewan, Canada

The Award for Excellence in Research recognizes exceptional researchers whose work has made significant contributions to advancing health and nutrition related to nuts and dried fruits. This year, the award will go to Dr. Kendall’s primary research interest is the role of diet in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. He has over 250 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. His research on the Portfolio Diet, which combines cholesterol-lowering food components, has been included in several guidelines as an effective dietary strategy for cholesterol reduction. He has also conducted much research on the role of healthy dietary patterns, including low glycemic index diets, in cardiometabolic health and the control of type 2 diabetes. Dr. Kendall has made outstanding contributions to strengthening the scientific evidence on the health effects of nut consumption.

The INC Award for Excellence in Research celebrates exceptional researchers whose contributions have led to significant accomplishments in the fields of health and nutrition in areas related to nuts and dried fruits. By recognising these achievements, the award aims to inspire continued excellence and progress in this area of study and raise greater awareness of the nutritional benefits and potential of these foods. 

EXCELLENCE IN GASTRONOMY

Jack Lin

State Banquet Chef and Media Personality, China

A distinguished state banquet chef with over three decades of professional experience in elite hotel management, Mr. Lin is widely recognized as a top-tier food influencer with a combined social media following exceeding 20 million fans. He has served as the head chef for high-profile international events like the G20 Summit and the Global Fortune Forum. He is a prominent television personality, frequently appearing on popular programs like Chinese Restaurant. Additionally, he is an accomplished author and the founder of the Weijue brand, dedicated to sharing refined Eastern culinary traditions.

The INC Award for Excellence in Gastronomy is dedicated to honouring chefs who have demonstrated exceptional creativity and innovation in the world of high gastronomy. This award celebrates those who have made significant contributions to the culinary world through outstanding creations and the development of recipes that highlight the versatility and qualities of nuts and dried fruits.

EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABILITY

The Award for Excellence in Sustainability honors projects and organizations making significant contributions to sustainability, with two categories: Back to the Planet and Back to the People.

Back to the Planet: Honoring initiatives focused on environmental sustainability, including climate action, biodiversity conservation, and responsible resource management.

Back to the People: Recognizing efforts that prioritize social sustainability, such as community support, livelihood enhancement, and workplace well-being.

A panel of experts will evaluate projects based on originality, relevance, impact, and innovation. Winners will be announced at the INC Congress in Macao and featured in Nutfruit magazine and INC publications, showcasing their achievements to a global audience.

The INC Sustainability Awards 2025 awards recognize impactful projects in two categories: Back to the Planet for environmental sustainability and Back to the People for social initiatives. Open exclusively to INC members attending the World Nut and Dried Fruit Congress in Palma de Mallorca, the award gives the opportunity to gain industry acclaim among 1,500+ professionals from over 60 countries while enhancing your company’s reputation as a sustainability leader.

All applicants will be showcased on the Congress website, with winners receiving additional recognition in Nutfruit Magazine and the official Congress video.

Eligible projects must align with at least one of the following Sustainable Development Goals: 2: Zero Hunger, 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, 13: Climate Action, or 15: Life on Land.

Projects must have started within the last two years, be active for at least one year with measurable outcomes, and be submitted via the official Application Form by April 1, 2025, at 12:00 CET. INC members may submit one project per category or two for both.

Submissions will be evaluated on industry relevance, sustainability impact, and innovation and the winner will be selected by INC leadership.
