Prof Alison Coates completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and PhD at the University of Adelaide and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado. She has spent the last 20+ years at the University of South Australia where she was Professor in Human Nutrition and Dean of Research in Allied Health and Human Performance. Since Jan 2026, she has been the Dean of Research Programs at the new Adelaide University.
Alison has a proven track record as a research leader in nutritional physiology with research interests centred on diet and lifestyle strategies to improve cardiovascular, metabolic and cognitive function. She has a long history of leading dietary interventions and working closely with the food industry. She is passionate about fostering nutritional science in Australia and in 2020-21 was the President of the Nutrition Society of Australia and an Ex-officio member of the National Committee for Nutrition for the Australian Academy of Science.
